Uncertain Futures: Consumer

A tight sphere of plastic knives, forks and spoons weaving and diving in a manner reminiscent of a sardine bait ball, consumed till the very last fish is gone. The white cutlery bares no trace of sustenance. The threads linking each item suggest the passing of time, a remembrance or memorial of past function. A feeding frenzy of activity perhaps indicating conflict. Empty space drifts in and out of the sphere. An element of fragility is evoked.

The plastic, fast food, cutlery acts as a metaphor of our Western lifestyle. With great determination and industry we are consuming the resources of the world. The pace of our endeavours outstrips the Earths natural ability to secure us a certain future.
