Uncertain Futures - Ice Sheets

This work was inspired by aerial pictures I had seen of countless streams of glacial melt water flowing towards the south coast of Iceland[1].

I wanted to express the fragile and delicate nature of the ice flows and the use of fabric seemed the perfect medium to convey this concept. The crystal organza moves and flows, rips and tears.

The layers of material and thread bring a depth to the work conveying centuries of time and vulnerability. A stitch can hold things together but it can also unravel, become undone, and fall apart.

The silver threads try to hold together the fragile elements. The words stamp the impact mankind has had on his environment. Dirty laundry on display.
