Installation — Uncertain Futures
Words, Words, Words.
‘Words, Words, Words’ is a response to my frustration at the lack of any tangible action by world leaders to the threat of climate change.. There is a lot of talk, many words printed in reports but this only seems to lead to more meetings and reports and reviews of reports. Come on you politicians, time is running out.

The ice tablets record our words. Slowly melting away, a constant collapse of meaning. Each word is constructed from carbonated chips signifying Man’s own contribution to his changing landscape.
The painting places Man in a huge environment, a void. He is dwarfed by the immensity of all around him. His hunched stance indicates humility and acceptance — the smallness of his position.
Words are not enough.

Installation at 'The Discovery Day', Milky Way, Bideford, 2008
I have taken this installation out to the public and found it generated much interest and questions. Young people in particular were fascinated by the large tablets of melting ice. They would return again and again over the course of the day to see how many more chips had fallen away and whether the tablets had collapse altogether. They would often drag their parents with them wanting them to engage with the work as well. Out of all the work I have produced to date, this piece really got its audience involved and generated discussion and debate. Hurray! Pity it is destroyed every time I show it.
